Three American
POWs with their hands tied behind their backs during the Death March: from
left to right, Samuel Stenzler, Frank Spear, and James M. Gallager.
We believe Samuel Stenzler was liberated from Cabanatuan, by the US Rangers.
Frank Spear was with the 4th Chemical Company. His date of death
is listed as July 19, 1945. James Gallagher served with an infantry
unit. His date of death is listed as April 9, 1942. If that
is true, he died the same day that this picture was taken. The POWs,
on the Death March with their hands tied behinds their backs were those
who were found carrying contraband, such as Japanese money, photographs,
or any other type of souvenir.
